Hyderabad: Biggest Khairatabad Ganesh immersed in record time

Hyderabad:  The 61-feet tall Khairatabad Ganesh idol, arguably the biggest in the country, left its pandal at 7-30am on Thursday, completed its journey to Hussain Sagar in record time and was immersed in by 1:30 pm.

The whole process which in the past had taken more 30 hours to complete its journey was completed within a record seven hours. The procession which included men, women and children covered 2.5 km. The length of the journey from the Ganesh pandal to the point where it was immersed in Hussain Sagar was 5.2 km.  It was immersed by cranes that used the latest computerized ARD (Automatic Release Device) technology.

The crane was positioned in front of the Integrated Control Room at NTR Gardens. It is owned by Modern Crane Service.

Speaking to siasat.com crane operator Debingder Singh said, “The machine has been brought from Gujarat. The same machine had been used for the Khairtabad Ganesh last year too. This crane has the special ARD technology which automatically lifts about 400-ton weight. The machine is named Tadano.”

Tens of thousands devotees gathered in front of the idol dancing, singing and chanting ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya.’ Oggu artists who come from different parts of Telangana danced and sang in front of the idol along the route.

The procession moved from Sensation theatre and BSNL towers and reached the Secretariat.

Policemen facilitated the smooth mobility of the procession till Secretariat. The speed of the procession slowed down later as it headed towards Crane number 6 where the immersion took place.

Over 600 police and GHMC personnel were deployed for the peaceful immersion of the idol within the prescribed time.

'The welfare of Kashmir lies in getting integrated with India'

Top Muslim body backs NRC; says Kashmir hamara tha, hai, rahega
Pragya Kaushika

New Delhi [India]: The General Council of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, on Thursday passed a resolution stating that Kashmir is an integral part of India. The Islamic body has supported National Register of Citizens (NRC) and supported the government’s stand on identifying foreigners in the country.

While the Islamic body shied away from extending their support for the abrogation of Article 370, its scholars reiterated their stand to support the nation over issues of national security and integrity.

Slams Pakistan

Speaking to ANI, Maulana Mahmood Madani, general secretary, Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind said, “Pakistan is trying to project on the international forum that India Muslims are against India. We condemn this act of Pakistan. We won’t be divided by enemy neighbour. “

On Kashmir

Madani said that his organization has maintained that Kashmir is an integral part of India and even passed resolutions in this respect in 1951, 1963 and now in 2019 as well.

The move is significant as the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind is one of the leading organisations of Islamic scholars in India. The representatives of the organization maintained that it is against the two-nation theory.

“We rejected the two-nation theory even then. This is our country and we won’t let anyone play with its integrity ever. We want to warn the enemy of our nation who are within and outside to not play with the nation’s integrity,” Madani said.

“The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind stands for unity and integrity of the country. Any separatist movement is not only harmful to India but also for the people of Kashmir,” said the resolution passed by the top Islamic body in the country today.

The resolution comes a month after the Narendra Modi government decided to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has also been bifurcated into two union territories by the government.

In an attack on Pakistan and its attempts at fuelling separatism in the region, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind resolution said, “The inimical forces and the neighbouring country are bent upon destroying Kashmir. The oppressed and beleaguered people of Kashmir are stuck between opposing forces. The enemy has made Kashmir a battlefield using Kashmiris as a shield.”

The organisation also called for the protection of rights and unique identity of the locals.

“We are not unmindful of the desire of Kashmiri people and their self-respect and cultural identity, It is our firm belief that the welfare of Kashmir lies in getting integrated with India. Jamiat appeals to government that while respecting the human rights, it must protect life and prosperity of Kashmiri people and use possible constitutional means for bringing back normalcy in the region,” it said.

The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind called on the government to maintain peace in the region. “The situation demands that we launch peaceful initiatives to maintain peace and security in the region especially in view of repercussions of clash of atomic powers,” it added.

Madani informed that the organization would be forming Sambhaavna committees at every district and block level to promote harmony.

“People from every religion will be part of that committee. It will ensure that there would be harmony in it,” added Madani.

On NRC

Briefing about the decision of the organization on NRC, Maulana Qari M Usman Mansoorpuri, president, Jamiat Ulema-i- Hind said that they are supporting the decision.

“Who is Indian who is not should be known. Other countries are doing it, we should do it too,” he said.

'Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has a long history of patriotism'

Swamy recalls Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s role in freedom struggle

Welcoming the endorsement of Modi government’s moves by the top Muslim body of the country Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, Subramanian Swamy said Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind is a well-known patriotic organisation. He was replying to the questions posed by Times Now anchor in a telephonic conversation.

It must be noted that Jamiat Ulema-e-hind, the top Muslim body passed a resolution earlier in the day in which it supported NRC and asserted that Muslims of the country stand with the government’s decision on Kashmir.

Role in freedom struggle

Saying that Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has a long history of patriotism, Swamy recalled that the body also supported the Indian freedom movement and opposed partition of the country.

Jamat-e-Islami is also rational

Though he called Jamiat-e-Islami, another well-known Muslim organisation, a radical hardline Muslim body, Swamy said it has always been on the rational side on a number of issues.

Swamy claimed that discrimination has been reduced and security has been increased in the states where BJP is coming to power hence Muslims are coming in support of the government’s moves.

Swamy lauded Jamiat for condemning Pakistan and said its point of view should largely be publicised.

TRS MLA Shakeel disappointed with not finding a place in the new Cabinet

TRS MLA Shakeel meets MP Arvind, may join BJP

Hyderabad: Apparently disappointed with not finding a place in the new Cabinet, TRS legislator from Bodhan Shakeel on Thursday met with BJP MP from Nizamabad Dharmapuri Arvind and discussed with him on his switching over to saffron party.

Shakeel sent feelers in this regard to the Nizamabad MP. Though he said it was a routine meeting with the BJP MP, it was being said the two-time MLA of the ruling party was expecting a berth in the new cabinet. When his dreams shattered with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao denying him berth in the new cabinet, the disappointed MLA has met with Arvind and conferred with him on the scope of joining the BJP. Meanwhile, the BJP leadership was claiming that many TRS leaders were in touch with them.
Speaking to media persons later, Shakeel Ahmed said he was not able to stay in the ruling party under the present circumstances and was ready to quit the party and join the BJP. Stating that he could win in the Assembly election due to the mercy of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, but some people around the party supremo were misleading him and harming the prospects of true loyalists.

It may be mentioned here that senior leaders like Etala Rajender, Nayini Narasimha Reddy, Jogu Ramanna, T Rajaiah and others created furore by talking against the party high command. However, they reportedly relented with TRS working president and IT Minister cajoled them to soften their stand and offered some key posts in the near future.

Now Bodhan MLA Shakeel went a step ahead and called on Nizamabad MP D. Arvind and felicitated him on his election. This has shocked the pink party cadre.

Former IAS Officer Shah Faesal withdraws habeas corpus petition

Former IAS Officer Shah Faesal withdraws habeas corpus petition

New Delhi: Withdrawing his habeas corpus petition on Thursday, Kashmiri bureaucrat-turned-politician Shah Faesal told the Delhi High Court that he won’t seek legal remedies as many others in Kashmir don’t have access to them.

Sources told IANS that Faesal, in an affidavit filed before the high court for withdrawing his plea, has stated that “he no longer wishes to pursue the present petition as a legal remedy against his unlawful detention”.

The sources also said that the move comes asr Faesal told his wife to withdraw the petition, alleging that many others who are also detained at such centres have no access to legal counsel or other remedies.

Affidavit was filed before Division Bench

The affidavit was filed before a division bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal which allowed Faesal to withdraw the habeas corpus petition.

On September 3, he had told the court that the Look-Out Circular issued against him was a “mala fide exercise of power” and a “highly suspect exercise for which no reasonable ground is made out”.

Faesal, who was stopped from flying abroad last month and sent to Srinagar where he was placed under confinement, also had rebutted the claims of the Jammu and Kashmir government regarding the events of his arrest, and termed its version “patently untrue”.

The government had stated that Faesal, who was taken from New Delhi to Srinagar late on August 14, “upon his arrival in Srinagar, while he was still accompanied with armed security officers, allegedly started to address a large gathering of people inside the arrival terminal and mobilising people, leading to the police allegedly making a report and an Executive Magistrate being brought in person to the airport itself”.

In his response, Faesal had stated: “Firstly, the version of the events is implausible because August 14, which is one day before Independence Day, there was exceptionally heavy security in every part of Srinagar, especially the airport.”

“The number of flights landing in Srinagar in the evening on the 14th, and the number of passengers travelling to Srinagar in the midst of current communication and transport blockades, is naturally very few, so there is no chance of any crowding in the airport… Therefore, it is truly inconceivable that there could have been any ‘large gathering’ of people.”

Faesal also noted that when the plane carrying the petitioner landed in Srinagar, all other passengers were made to wait on board till he made to disembark first, surrounded by special armed security forces, and handed over to security forces in Srinagar.

“Thereafter, the petitioner was surrounded by 10-15 security force personnel… the petitioner was whisked through the airport, put into the car, and taken directly to the detention centre in Srinagar.”

Faesal further stated that there was clearly no factual reason to prompt the alleged police report on the subsequent order of detention and the said order has been passed with “mala fide” intent in the absence of any production before a magistrate.

Faesal had knocked the doors of the court against his detention. The plea, filed by his friend, sought the release of the ex-bureaucrat.

The court had listed the matter for further hearing on September 12 as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was not available for advancing arguments in the matter.

Illegally picked up: Faesal

Faesal’s peititon contended that he was “illegally picked up” from the airport while he was on his way to Harvard University in the US where he was going to complete his fellowship.

“The circumstances of his illegal custody from Delhi point to his Unlawful and illegal detention that effectively amounts to an abduction,” the plea said.

The plea further stated that after his “illegal detention” in the intervening night of August 14-15, Faesal was “illegally whisked away to Kashmir against his wishes. No transit remand was sought in Delhi before illegally taking him to Srinagar.”

Faesal formed Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement

Faesal, who quit the Indian Administrative Service in January to form the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM), had been posting tweets and Facebook content highly critical of the government’s move abrogating Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and split the state into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

King Salman condemns Netanyahu pledge

Riyadh: King Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the Israeli prime minister’s pre-election pledge to annex part of the West Bank, in a phone call Thursday with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

Netanyahu issues controversial pledge

Battling to win re-election in September 17 polls, Netanyahu issued a deeply controversial pledge on Tuesday to annex the strategic Jordan Valley, which accounts for around a third of the occupied West Bank.

He also repeated his intention to annex Israeli settlements in the wider West Bank, but in coordination with US President Donald Trump.

“The king reiterated… Saudi Arabia’s condemnation and categorical rejection of the Israeli prime minister’s declaration on his intention to annex lands from the West Bank,” the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Netanyahu’s pledge is a “flagrant violation” of UN: King Salman

The king also said Netanyahu’s pledge marked a “very dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people” and was a “flagrant violation” of UN and international laws, SPA added.

Netanyahu’s moves could essentially destroy any remaining hopes for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

His pledge has drawn firm condemnation from the Palestinians, the United Nations, the European Union and Arab states.

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

At Saudi Arabia’s request, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation — a 57-member pan-Islamic body — said it will hold an emergency foreign ministers’ meeting on Sunday to discuss an “Israeli escalation”.

Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli steal romantic moments at event

New Delhi: Looks like Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli cannot get enough of each other! The duo’s no-holds-barred display of affection is no secret with the couple frequently sharing drool-worthy pictures on social media.

During an event here to rename Feroz Shah Kotla stadium as Arun Jaitley stadium, Anushka was seen kissing the hand of her hubby. Virat reciprocated by holding her hand affectionately. The couple was also seen chatting and flashing smiles during the event.

Anushka looked ethereal in traditional purple coloured ensemble paired with a matching golden bordered dupatta. Virat was seen in a Nehru jacket that he paired with a white shirt and dark coloured trousers.

DDCA honours King Kohli with stand at Arun Jaitley Stadium

In a glittering ceremony in the national capital on Thursday, not only was the famous Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium rechristened the Arun Jaitley Stadium in honour of the late Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley, but the new players’ pavilion was also named after India skipper Virat Kohli.

All this in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Railways and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and a host of BCCI officials -— both past and present.

Held at the Weightlifting Hall of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the occasion saw the Indian team in attendance as their skipper was duly honoured for his contribution to the game. The DDCA Annual Honours 2019 also saw promising cricketers from Delhi being honoured with mementoes for their performances.

The show started with a dance performance before DDCA President Rajat Sharma took over the stage as he welcomed everyone and showered laurels on not just Jaitley and Kohli, but also Shah. He spoke on how former Finance Minister Jaitley played a pivotal role in making Delhi cricket what it is today.

He also revealed how DDCA has decided to start two academies where poor kids will be trained for free. The Commonwealth Games Village and Pitampura will be the venues for the two academies. The DDCA President added that former Delhi stars would contribute in the effort without charging a penny.

The rechristening of the stadium was done by Shah, Rajat Sharma, Rijiju and the family members of Jaitley with an audio visual clip being played in the background. Shah presented the Jaitley family with a memento to honour the occasion.

After that it was all about King Kohli as Rajat Sharma, Shah and the India skipper took the stage as the new pavilion was unveiled.

Speaking on the occasion, Kohli spoke of how special the evening was and how it was double joy as the stadium was also named in honour of Jaitley on the same evening. Kohli also thanked his family and his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma for his contributions over the years.

“When I left home today, I told my family one anecdote. I remember getting a ticket to watch a game in 2001 at the stadium and asking for autographs from the players. So to have a pavilion in my name at the same stadium today is surreal and a great honour,” Kohli revealed.

The whole team was felicitated after this by Shah and Rijiju following which the players posed for a group photograph.

In the DDCA Annual Honours, Dhruv Shorey, Navdeep Saini, Jonty Sidhu and Tejas Baroka were the top award getters, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, former India skipper Kapil Dev said: “Wonderful to have a stand in the name of Virat. And whatever DDCA does for Arun Jaitley is not enough given his contribution.”

Former India player Ajay Jadeja said that it was a truly deserved gift for Kohli. “Virat is a special player and he deserves this kind of a recognition. To be actively playing and getting a stand in his name is a great feeling,” he said.

Former DDCA Vice President and India opener Chetan Chauhan spoke about his long association with Jaitley.

“Arun Jaitleyji was DDCA President for 14 years and I was the Vice President. He was our friend, guide. Whenever we needed direction, he would help us. The biggest help he did was to rebuild the Kotla stadium. So it’s befitting to name it in his honour,” he said.

Muslims are in fear despite ruling the country for 600 years

Muslims are over 16 Cr, why they still fear? wonders RSS leader

New Delhi (India): Calling Mughal prince Dara Shikoh an epitome of Indianness, senior RSS functionary Krishna Gopal said on Wednesday that had he been the emperor in place of Aurangzeb, Islam could have flourished more in India.

Speaking at a symposium on ‘Dara Shikoh: A hero of the Indian syncretist traditions,’ Gopal also said that Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, was a ‘real Hindustani’ who never compromised with Islam and always tried to unite the society.

The RSS leader also urged the Muslim community to follow Dara Shikoh’s legacy rather complaining that there was an atmosphere of fear in country.

“Dara was a prince, who translated Upnishads into Persian. He discussed and debated it with intellectuals. He knew the God was only one and there were different faiths to find him. Dara was never divisive. He understood the assimilative power of society and tried to establish compatibility while remaining a true Muslim,” he said.

Gopal said Shah Jahan had understood the capability of Dara Shikoh that it was he who could take the country ahead and prepared ground for him for succession but his only mistake was that he translated Upanishads to Persian, which the then fundamentalists didn’t accept.

“Not to hate anyone had been India’s tradition and Dara followed it. He was an epitome of Indianness,” he said.

Gopal said that Dara Shikoh was a man of the Indian syncretist tradition whom Aurangzeb saw as a threat to Islam.

“But I can tell you with confidence that had Dara been the Mughal emperor in place of Aurangzeb, the Islam could have flourished more in India,” he said.

Gopal, the Joint General Secretary of RSS, said Dara Shikoh wanted a society in which Hindus adopt good things from Islam and Muslims follow good things of Hinduism.

However, he added that divisive politics is continuing and urged the Muslim community to follow the legacy of Dara Shikoh.

Why Muslims live in fear?

“There are around 50,000 Parsis, some 45 lakh Jains and some 80 lakh Baudhs. They never said they are in fear. Muslims, who are around 16-17 crore, say they are living in an atmosphere of fear. Why this? They are in fear despite ruling the country for 600 years. Why don’t you come out from this fear,” he said.

Referring to the Parsi community, he said they are few in numbers but mingled with society the way sugar mingles in milk.

Gopal said after reading books of Dara Shikoh, he was very much impressed with him and urged the audience to read him.

“You will find him as a Muslim who was a true Hindustani. He always wanted to reduce the gaps in the society,” he said.

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi hailed Dara Shikoh as an identity of nationalism and said he was a victim of the brutality of fanatics influenced by Aurangzeb’s thinking.

He also hit out at historians for not presenting Dara Shikoh in good light and said the Mughal prince was the victim of a planned conspiracy by some historians.

The event organised by Academics for Nation was attended by several leaders and academicians.

The event comes days after RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met Jamiat leader Maulana Arshad Madani in Delhi. The one-and-a-half-hour long meeting discussed the Hindu-Muslim unity.

Explain any plan to link social media, Aadhaar: SC to govt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked the government to explain if it is contemplating any move to link social media accounts with Aadhaar.

A bench headed by Justice Deepak Gupta asked the Centre to inform whether it is contemplating any move on framing some policy to regulate social media and linking of social media accounts with Aadhaar, by September 24, the next date fixed for hearing.

The apex court order came on a plea by Facebook seeking transfer of various petitions from different high courts to the top court.

Facebook has said that the transfer of cases would serve the interests of justice by avoiding the possibility of conflicting decisions from the high courts.

The top court in the last hearing has not stayed proceedings in the high courts but restrained them from passing any final order.

Facebook told the apex court that two petitions had been filed in the Madras High Court and one each in the Bombay and Madhya Pradesh High Courts.

All the pleas in the three high courts have sought a declaration that Aadhaar or any other government-authorized identity proof should be made mandatory to authenticate social media accounts.

“All the common cases seek similar relief and involve the similar question of law,” Facebook said in its plea, adding that any finding on the common questions would have far-reaching implications for the general public and the parties.

Facebook has sought a stay on the proceedings in various high courts.

Facebook said that it would suffer irreparable loss if the proceedings were not stayed at this stage, as conflicting decisions on the prayer seeking to link Aadhaar with social media platforms would adversely impact its platform used throughout India.

The plea said that the common questions involve the interpretation of important Central statutes including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019 which would directly impact the central and state governments.

The Madras High Court had expanded the scope of the case to consider the issue of online abuse and fake news being circulated through social media and sought to define the liabilities of intermediaries in cases of fake news and cyber abuse.
