‘Garibi Hatao’ to ‘Garibi Chupao’, Sena slams Modi government

New Delhi: The Shiv Sena accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday for hiding poverty by building a wall. The wall will hide slums along the route of President Donald Trump who is scheduled to visit India on 24th February.

Indira Gandhi’s slogan

“There was a time when Indira Gandhi’s slogan ‘Garibi Hatao’ was criticized, but it appears the new agenda is ‘Garibi Chupao’”, Sena said in its mouthpiece Saamana.

“Trump’s visit is scheduled for three hours, but the preparations for it are costing the country’s exchequer Rs 100 crores, including making of 17 roads in Ahmedabad, and building walls on these roads,” Saamana has said.

Saamana said, “Narendra Modi is the biggest endorser of development. Nobody developed the country before him, and no one will develop the country after him. When he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 15 years and the Prime Minister of India for five years, why has it come to this that poverty needs to be concealed?”

Trump is scheduled to visit the famous Sabarmati Ashram on 24th February to take part in a 22-km-long roadshow with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two leaders will inaugurate a new cricket stadium in Motera.

Poser to Modi: Why no support for Sufi Basanth Panchami?

Hyderabad (NSS): The Chilkur Balaji Temple’s Chief Priest Dr Rangarajan has questioned why the Central Government under Modiji was not interested in supporting the great initiative of reviving the Basant Panchami, a Sufi festival to celebrate communal harmony?

In a statement here today, Rangarajan said that if the facts are true, the initiative by a Dargah to revive this tradition a few years back has suffered a setback due to lack of support and patronage. There was no Basant festival this year which was revived a few years back.

The Sufi head of the Dargah was measured in his words of regret and agony that his efforts are facing hurdles both at Government level and patronage level. Celebrating Basant may have been a norm at various Sufi dargahs in north India, but it is rarely celebrated down in the Vindhyas.

Muzaffar Ali Soofi Chisti, the custodian of Hazrat Shaikh Ji Hali dargah, revived the tradition in south India a few years ago.  Incidentally, Basant was celebrated as an official festival in Hyderabad of yore – both during the Qutub Shahi and the Asaf Jahi regimes.

‘As you are aware, we from Chilkur have been reminding people that Tana shah was the most revered Muslim ruler of our region. He was a true secularist. Aurangazeb razed the Golconda rule just for this affection of Tana Shah towards Hindu subjects. To quell dissent among the Mughal clergy and nobles against his Deccan campaign, Aurangzeb launched a propaganda campaign against Tana Shah.

It is important to rewrite history and remove the Mughal distortion to present Tani Shah as a better role model for current and future generations in our history textbooks. The book History of Golconda records how Golconda suffered for the policy of religious tolerance of his ruler Tani Shah due to the aggression and ambition of Aurangzeb’, he said.

Rangarajan said that at least now the Govt of Telangana and the Union Governments should revive this unique tradition of Telangana to continue the legacy of Tana Shah.  We need to celebrate such people who followed principles of dharma, he added.

‘Pakistan’ mentioned as birthplace of newborn in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Amid Citizenship law protests across the country, a newborn in Gujarat’s Vatva area has been issued certificates with the birthplace mentioned as “Pakistan railway crossing”.

18-month-old, Mohammed Uzerkhan, son of Arbazkhan Pathan and Mahekbanu Pathan, was born on October 1, 2018, at VS Hospital.

“We got the birth certificate when my daughter-in-law was discharged from the hospital. We did not notice the error at that time… we have been trying to get it corrected but have not been able to,” said the baby’s grandfather.

Sarfaraz Khan, great grandfather of the child said that this is a grave mistake as the references to the area in local parlance have got reflected in the official record.

On Saturday, the matter was brought to the notice of Congress Behrampura corporator Badruddin Shaikh. “It is surprising that the doctor, who had signed the certificate, issued it before even looking at it. The officials must know that there is no area called Pakistan in Ahmedabad. The officials responsible for the error should be suspended,” said Shaikh.

The crossing in the area is informally referred to as ‘Pakistan crossing’ as it is near a Muslim-dominated locality housing around 2,200 families referred to ‘Chhota Pakistan’. The area is officially named ‘Vasant Gajendragadkar Nagar EWS Housing’ named after the state’s first general secretary of the Jan Sangh Party in Gujarat.

SP leader accuses UP CM of unleashing a reign of terror & fear.

SP leader censures Yogi Adityanath

By Kulsum Mustafa

Lucknow: Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly, Ram Govind  Chaudhury, censured Chief Minister  Yogi  Adityanath and accused him of unleashing a reign of terror and fear in the state. He charged Yogi of instilling panic in the masses through his hate speeches, anti-minority stance and open threats of  punishing anyone who dared to disagree with the  Bharatiya Janata Party ideology. Yogi and his party, Ram Govind said, is using Lord Ram just as “Vote Dev”, to fulfill their political agenda, whereas the Samajwadi Party, he said respects and treats Ram as God.  From here stems the difference in their ideology.

SP leader expresses concern at Yogi’s speeches

Senior Samajwadi Party leader, Ram Govind, was speaking in the UP Vidhan Sabha, during the budget session on Monday.  He expressed deep concern at Yogi’s recent speeches, chiefly during the Delhi elections where Yogi , has been invited by the BJP as part of the team of star campaigners for the party.

Deploring the un parliamentary language Yogi used during the campaign like “thok do” (kill them),  Aisa sabak sikhaoo key saath pushtey yaad rakhey ( teach them a lesson that their seven generation remember)  etc, Ram Govind said this is not the language  of a chief minister of state, and certainly not of a Holy man. Yogi, he said, is expected to shower blessings of long life and prosperity on the people and not threaten them and instill fear in them.

The SP leader charged Yogi of totally destroying the social fabric of the state and said that his hate speech has created a huge communal divide among the people. Reiterating that peaceful protest is the right of every Indian Ram Govind deplored the force used on demonstrators, including women protestors in several places in the state.

Yogi’s orders of imposing fines on the protestors on charges of destroying public property Ram Govind said that protest is the right given under the Constitution . and BJP has enjoyed this right during the days when they were out of power.

Charging the government of turning a deaf ear to the problems of the people Ram Govind said that the few who dare to come before the government with their grievances and genuine demands are beaten up and made to shut down their voices. There is no justice for them just the agony of being suppressed and punished for daring to open their mouth

Anti-CAA protests

Ram Govind was critical of the district administration’s handling of the  peaceful, all women dharna against ‘Black laws’ – CAA, NCR at Ghantaghar in Lucknow.  He said the harsh and brutal treatment is the hallmark of Yogi raj and a true example of how the state  government treats anyone who does not toe the BJP line.

Instead of giving their demands a sympathetic hearing, they were not allowed to put up any tents or make a bonfire to keep away the harsh winter chill  they were treated as criminals , Their blankets and food were snatched away by the police, and water pored over the burning coals.

“Jahan bahu beti ki izzat na ho who Yeh Ram Rajya ho hi nahi sakta,(where the women folks are not treated with respect cannot be rule of Ram), said Ram Govind, He said in true Ram Rajya not just humans but also animals get justice and live in blissful peace.

“BJP ney kalankit kiya Ram ko (BJP has stigmatized), said the leader

He urged the CM to stop the politics of dividing people on communal lines and instead work on bringing welfare and prosperity to the state by implementing the  hundreds of policies that are there on paper but have not been implemented  so far.

Asaduddin Owaisi ‘urges’ KCR to stay NPR

Syed Hurairah

Hyderabad: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen supremo Asaduddin Owaisi after noticing the silence of the Telangana government on National Population Register in the recent cabinet meeting opened up and urged the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to halt NPR process immediately.

Owaisi, who represents Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha, has been speaking against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the NPR for the past few weeks. He has been addressing public meetings in Hyderabad as well as cities in Maharashtra and Karnataka in which he has criticised the law.

NPR has no relation with Census: Owaisi

The MIM chief on Monday spoke to the media in Darussalaam, his party headquarter, and took their questions on a variety of issues. Speaking about the NPR, he said that in his meeting with the CM, he had requested that the Telangana government put the brakes on NPR. “I welcome the decision of the government and cabinet. I would also request and urge the Telangana Chief Minister that as the state of Kerala has put a stay on NPR, we request and hope that he would take a historic decision and also put a stay on NPR. Because NPR has no relation whatsoever on census,” Owaisi said.

Brutality at Jamia Millia

He also spoke about the videos which were released, reportedly from Jamia Millia University in Delhi, which showed police brutality on the students. He questioned as to why no FIR has been registered against the Delhi Police for brutality.

Smriti Irani calls Rahul Gandhi “Abdullah Deewaney”

New Delhi: Known for her sassy responses to her opponents on social media, Union Minister Smriti Irani yet again took a jibe on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday.

Soon after the Supreme Court’s decision that stated women officers should get permanent commission in the armed forces, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The Govt disrespected every Indian woman, by arguing in the SC that women Army officers didn’t deserve command posts or permanent service because they were inferior to men. I congratulate India’s women for standing up & proving the BJP Govt wrong.”

To which Irani responded in her tweet in both Hindi and English and called Gandhi “Begani shadi mein Abdullah Deewaney”.

She wrote, “Adarniya Begani Shadi mein Abdullah Deewaney, It was PM @narendramodi Ji who announced Permanent Commission for Women in Armed Forces, thereby ensuring gender justice & @BJPMahilaMorcha took up this issue when your Govt. twiddled its thumbs. Ask your team to check before tweeting.”

Insisting on shaking-off typical arguments founded on the physical strengths and weaknesses of men and women, the Supreme Court in a landmark judgement on Monday said the delay in granting permanent commission (PC) to women officers has caused “irreparable prejudice” to them.

A bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Ajay Rastogi, said: “Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers, both within the period of fourteen years’ service and beyond, should equally be entitled to consideration for the grant of PCs.”

Couple gets married at anti-CAA, NRC protest site

Chennai: In a rather unique fashion, holding anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) placards in hands, a couple got married at the protest site in Old Washermanpet area where demonstration is being held against the CAA, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) on Monday.

Engagement of couple

The engagement of the couple, Shainsha and Sumaiya, had taken place a few days ago and the date of marriage had also been fixed.

Since both of them are residents of the Old Washermanpet area itself, their marriage could have been delayed due to the protest which broke out a couple of days ago and has since continued in the area.

However, the duo chose to get married at the protest site itself, where they were cheered on by hundreds of demonstrators.

Anti-CAA protests

Protests in Chennai resumed on February 15 with the protestors waving the tricolour and chanting slogans against the CAA and NRC.

Asian markets fall as virus hits earnings, growth

Hong Kong: Asian markets tumbled on Tuesday after Apple warned the new coronavirus had hit output and demand in China, fuelling fears over the wider impact of the epidemic on corporate earnings and economic growth.

Investors looked past a positive lead from European bourses to focus on the spiralling fallout from the virus that has so far killed more than 1,800 people and infected nearly 72,500, mostly in mainland China.

As well as denting company bottom lines, the virus has sparked panic buying, economic jitters and the cancellation of high-profile sporting and cultural events.

“Best to buckle in as we could be in for a bumpy ride (over) the next few weeks,” said Stephen Innes of AxiCorp.

“I’m struggling to find any research report that doesn’t suggest (COVID-19) could significantly affect short term earnings.”

Apple suppliers in Asia were hit by the tech giant’s warning that it would miss its quarterly revenue forecast because of the virus, dragging markets lower.

Tokyo’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 1.2 percent, deepening losses a day after data showed the economy shrank in the December quarter, even before the effects of the virus hit Japan.

Hong Kong was down 1.2 percent and mainland China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.2 percent.

Elsewhere, Singapore fell 0.6 percent as investors digested the government’s decision to cut its economic growth forecast for this year as the virus batters the city state’s tourism and trade.

Seoul was off 1.5 percent and Taipei lost 0.6 percent. Sydney shed 0.3 percent.

Investors have taken some comfort from a slowdown in new infections outside hardest-hit Hubei province, which Chinese officials say is a sign that the outbreak is under control.

But World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the trend “must be interpreted very cautiously”.

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said Sunday there could be a cut of around 0.1-0.2 percentage points to global growth but stressed there was much uncertainty about the virus’s economic impact.

Moves by China’s central bank on Monday to cushion the world’s second-largest economy against the health crisis appear to have done little to allay concerns.

European markets were higher after Eurogroup chief Mario Centeno predicted the coronavirus would have a “temporary” impact on the eurozone and the WHO warned against over-reacting about the epidemic.

US markets were closed for a holiday.

– Crude hit –

China is the world’s biggest importer and consumer of oil, and crude prices have been particularly sensitive to the epidemic that has spread to nearly 30 countries and territories.

Global oil demand will suffer its first quarterly drop in a decade as the virus lashes China’s economy and its impact ripples throughout the world, the International Energy Agency warned last week.

Brent Crude fell 0.9 percent and West Texas Intermediate was down 0.5 percent.

Gold, seen as a safe haven in times of uncertainty, was up 0.40 percent.

We’re happy there, CAA political game: Pakistani Hindu devotees

Haridwar: A group of 44 Hindu devotees arrived at Haridwar on pilgrimage. They are of the opinion that India should sympathetically consider giving visa on arrival to Hindu devotees of Pakistan. It should ease visa procurement process. On the question of citizenship Amendment Act they said it is nothing but a political game. The devotees said they are happy in Pakistan and they face no difficulty.

According to a Hindi newspaper, all the devotees urged the Indian government to ensure visa on arrival to Pakistani Hindu devotees who come to India on pilgrimage. They want to eliminate the role of middle men in visa process.

The devotees said there is no basis in the allegation that Hindus are exploited in Pakistan. Our family has been living there since formation of Pakistan. We celebrate each others festival together. All people belonging to any religion are not same. Some people spread venom for their political gain.

A Pakistani woman Nilam Solanki said we need to take help of agents to apply for visa for which we need to shell out a whooping amount. Beside that all members of a family do not get visa at the same time. Hence the government of India should allow visa without any hurdle to the devotees from Pakistan.
